FeaturedCommentsFor the record I DONT think what you do is porn... and I know porn cause I look at a fair bit of it lol. I even wrote a term paper at Uni on the subject in one of my sociology classes because I felt that 'porn' serves a function in society (else it would not exist).
For people to see anything as porn says everything about them and far less about you as an artist (but I think you know that already). For fucks sake- some people are aroused by shoes or even by pencils- doesnt mean I am going to censor footwear or writing implements because it excites them Do you pictures cause arousal? I hope so- art is supposed to create an emotion and a visceral response is just that? Are the models attractive? Yes every single one of them (but then I see almost every human form as attractive in its own way- biology is beauty). Does that mean that, once aroused a person HAS TO respond with a wank as if it WERE porn? Course not. I know that I dont- never have as to my mind the models here are not 'doing porn' even if they -GASP- have vagina showing (or shoes or pencils). Awesome comment,..thank you very much. You touch on some points that I have argued already throughout my gallery. I like your assertion that porn serves a purpose in our society,..very true!!
I have to say lovely models and boy they are brave to show their bodies because, I sure can't >_< so great work
I wrote this on a specific image, but feel it is worth commenting on your entire gallery.
I feel that a lot of your gallery is pornography. I would further argue that folks tend to take offense too easily at the label. Art is any creation that is intended to elicit a reaction from an audience. Pornography is a form of art designed to elicit a > very specific < reaction in the viewer: arousal. (More specifically, "the explicit portrayal of sexual subject matter for the purpose of sexual gratification".) Good pornography does so with both an aesthetic and a technical prowess that tends to remove the capacity for the viewer to avoid the intended reaction. Pornography is art. Pornography > can be < good art. Most of your pornography is, in my opinion, very good. In this day and age it is hard to believe that anyone would be aroused by a simple picture of a nude woman,..even with her legs spread. I am assuming that you must have been aroused.
I was. I am still able to find simple arousal in the form of a naked woman. Then again, I have no difficulty considering pornography to be an art form any more than I have difficulty considering as art those literary (or movie) pieces that evoke a sense of fear. Arousal is just another emotional reaction to some forms of art, as is fear, sadness, or joy. Pornography is the term applied to those art forms that intend to create arousal, just as horror is the term applied to those art forms intended to cause fear.
So how could you possibly know my intention? You judge my intention by your own reaction? If I say that I didn't not intend arousal or titillation, but only admiration, that removes the "porn" label,..but because you are aroused,..it is fair for you to presume to know my intention. Images depicting sexual acts are obvious in their intent,..but a nude image of a woman? What if I post a pic where a woman is wearing a bathing suit, and some fella is aroused by her uncovered feet,...the image then becomes porn?
When asked recently what made one of my images art and not porn, my answer was "the viewer". |
